Hurricane Iota Relief – Providencia Community Center
Working with the Colombian Embassy in Washington D.C. and other donors, FOC donated $5,000 towards the construction of a community center in Providencia after Hurricane Iota destroyed 98% of the island's structures in 2021.
Cooking with Care – Environmental Care
FOC raised $1,725 for Los Peces Cuentan, a small community group working in Córdoba, Colombia to deliver workshops that bring awareness about environmental conservation to kids and families living in and around the Sinú River Basin.
Emergency Aid to Cali, Other Cities with the Rotary Club
FOC was able to donate a total of $6,150 to the Rotary Club in Cali to purchase and deliver food and medical supplies to families in Cali, Pasto, Popayán, and Buga – four cities that have been hit especially hard by political unrest in 2021.
Rumbaterapia – Virtual Dance Class
During our virtual dance party therapy event, FOC raised a total of $1,210 for an inspiring organization (Mata 'e Pelo in La Guajira, Colombia) selected by our dance instructor Alé Tracy Chavarriaga.
Discussing Race and Gender in 21st Century Colombia
Funds raised during the panel allowed FOC to donate $2,000 to organizations selected by the panelists, Asociación de Mujeres Afro-Colombianas and Batambora ($1,000 to each organization).
ASOMI
FOC made a $5,000 contribution to La Asociación de Mujeres Indígenas (ASOMI) after our 2020 end of year fundraising efforts.
Comics for a Cause: A Visual Storytelling Workshop
FOC provided small grants to 13 artists and craftsmen in Cartagena. Talented artist and FOC Member Sarah Shaw organized a visual storytelling workshop where she was able to share her love of storytelling with participants in an online mini-comics workshop.
Cooking with Care – Bolívar
Friends of Colombia partnered with La Mesa de Víctimas, a local advocacy organization that works with community leaders from rural pueblos in the region, to donate $3,822 worth of groceries during Summer 2020 of the pandemic.
Cooking with Care – Córdoba
Friends of Colombia partnered with Server de Corazón, a small community organization that took on the mission of purchasing and delivering food and supplies to families in the remote towns during the COVID-19 national lockdown in 2021.
