Dear Friends of Colombia Members and Supporters,
As we approach the end of another remarkable year, we find ourselves reflecting on the incredible journey we’ve shared as part of Friends of Colombia. Your steadfast support has been the driving force behind our ability to make a positive impact in the lives of individuals and communities in Colombia.
In 2023, Friends of Colombia continued its commitment to fostering development, empowering local communities, and promoting youth education. Thanks to your generosity, we were able to provide funding to five inspiring organizations across Colombia through our small grants competition. These organizations are at the forefront of driving positive change, creating opportunities, and building stronger, more resilient communities. They include:
- Repurpose-IT.ORG – training teachers in technology in Wounaan (indigenous group) communities
- PROEDUPAZ – teaching vulnerable populations how to farm
- Guardabosques de la Sierra – building a composter to produce organic fertilizer for farmers in a cacao association
- Tierra Grata – educating young women and girls on menstrual health and constructing community bathrooms for them in rural areas
- Club Jaguares de Voleibol – keeping youth active in a sports team and teaching them about maintaining a healthy lifestyle
However, amidst our celebrations, we also bear the weight of sorrow as we mourn the loss of our beloved board member, Pat Wand. Pat was not only a dedicated advocate for learning but a guiding light for our organization. Her passion and unwavering commitment to education have left an indelible mark on Friends of Colombia. To honor her memory, we will support the Pat Wand Memorial Fund, dedicated to continuing her legacy by supporting initiatives that promote learning and knowledge-sharing.
This year’s end-of-year fundraiser holds special significance as we channel our collective efforts into two vital causes. Firstly, we will be contributing to the Pat Wand Memorial Fund at the Museum of the Peace Corps Experience, ensuring that Pat’s legacy lives on through educational endeavors that align with her vision. Secondly, we remain committed to our ongoing partnerships with our organizational allies in Colombia. Your support will help sustain and expand these critical initiatives, amplifying our impact on the ground.
As we approach the holiday season and the end of the year, we invite you to join us in making a difference. Your contribution, whether big or small, will help shape a brighter future for the communities we serve and ensure that Pat’s advocacy for learning continues to inspire generations to come.
